Ronald's Story

Ronald Dean Matthews, 80, of Rockville, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017. He retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company. He was born April 17, 1937, in Rockville, to the late James Matthews and Dorothy Deplanty Matthews. His wife of 42 years, Janet Sue Haddon Matthews, whom he married Sept. 22, 1956, in Brazil, passed away Aug. 16, 1999.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda (Tom) Stein, Deanna (Dave) Setters and Angela (Mike) Stowe; one son, Donald Matthews; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Garrard.
He was a 1955 graduate of Rockville High School. He was a member of the Rockville First United Methodist Church. Active in community affairs including the Republican party, he served on the Rockville Town Council, Rockville Community School Board, Parke County Fair Board and Parke County Election Board. He was a member past master and secretary of Parke Masonic Lodge 8, Parke County Low 12 Club and Rockville Elk's Lodge 2471. He also served as the Adams Township Trustee.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville, with the Rev. Carl Huxford officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday with a Masonic memorial service conducted at 7:30 p.m. by Parke Masonic Lodge 8.
