Ronald's Story

Ronald Lee 'Harvey' Bowman, 67, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, at home with his wife and daughter, Stacey, at his bedside. Ron was born July 6, 1949, in Terre Haute, to Georgene Wise and Thomas Bowman, and grew up in Pimento.
Ron was a graduate of Honey Creek High School, class of 1967. He joined the Indiana State University Police Department in 1980 and in 1991 received the W. Kevin Artz Memorial Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award. After his 14 years of service to law enforcement he joined Local 692, Cement Masons and later Laborers Local 204 until 2006 when he learned he needed a liver and kidney transplants. A year and a half later on May 30, 2007, he received those transplants, and on May 30, 2017, he celebrated 10 years of his new life, only to be diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast moving terminal brain cancer, in February of this year.
On June 30, 1999, Ron married his wife, Carol Jane Frazier Hayes.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Sue Horsely Bowman; one brother, Gary; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Stacey (Joe) Reeves of Woodstock, Ga., and Amy Buntain of Terre Haute; son, Josh Bowman of Terre Haute; stepson, Steve Mikolasek of Evansville; sisters, Diane (Tom) Horner, and Karen (Mike) Fuson of Terre Haute; brothers, Tom (Jan) Bowman, Randy (Teri) Bowman and Gregg Bowman, of Terre Haute; half brothers, Jeff (Stacey) Bowman of Terre Haute, Jamie (Pam) Bowman of Greencastle, Eddie (Belinda) Danner, Lonnie (Penny) Danner and Lee (Chasity), Danner of Terre Haute; one surviving aunt, Carolyn McBroom; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his two special companions, Toby and Skeeter Doodle;
It was Ron's wishes that he be an organ doner and be willed to the Anatomical Education Program of the IU School of Medicine.
No services will be held, but a celebration of life will be scheduled for June 30, 2017. Donations may be made to The Terre Haute Humane Shelter, Hospice of the Wabash Valley or a charity of your choice.
