Roland Dahnke MARSHALL, Ill. - Roland Dahnke, age 80, of Marshall, passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years Janet, sons Douglas (Yvonne) and Gregory (Lisa).
Roland was born on May 9, 1938, in Sigel, Ill., to Richard and Helen (Alwardt) Dahnke.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mattoon. He was a grain and livestock farmer in Assumption, and was employed by Caterpillar for 25 years, beginning as a welder moving to supervisor in welding. Prior to retiring in 2001 he moved into the proved design department.
Roland graduated from Steward-Strasburg High School in 1956. He married Janet Sue Artze on Jan. 15, 1961, in Decatur. He enjoyed wood working and fishing bass tournaments with his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Douglas (Yvonne) Dahnke of Martinsville, Gregory (Lisa)Dahnke of Fairfield, Ohio; five grandchildren, Trenton (Kalee) Dahnke, Heidi (Eugene) Miller, Ryan (Jeni) Dahnke, Jessica Dahnke, Callisa (David) Waddle; eight great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tucker, and Brooke Dahnke, Kendall Miller, Izabelle, Myla, and Ryla Dahnke, David Elijah Waddle; one brother, Gilbert (Judi) Dahnke of Summerfield, Fla.; one sister, Darlene (Bobby) Shanks of Newburgh, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Sharon Dahnke and Carol Andricks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kaleena Marie Dahnke; and brother, Reuben Dahnke
Funeral services will be held at the Martinsville Bible Church at 1 p.m. CST Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, with the Rev Dave Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery in Martinsville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St John's Lutheran Church in Mattoon.
