Robia Dee Bates, 96, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at her home. She was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roy and Laura (Spencer) Wright.
Robia is survived by her son, David W. Bates and wife Susan of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jeremy W. Bates of Terre Haute and Jaclyn E. Nowak and husband Anthony of Terre Haute; four great-grandchildren, Faith Nowak, Hope Nowak, Bria Frederick and Emma Frederick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne T. Bates; and sisters, Anna Lee Wright Haverkamp, Eva Mae Wright Modesitt and Delpha Lou Wright Fagg.
Robia attended grade school in Prairie City, Iowa. After moving to Indiana, she was raised on a farm and graduated from Brazil High School. Robia was an active member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. She loved to knit blankets. An excellent seamstress, there was nothing she couldn't do! Robia was an amazing cook. She loved to be outdoors gardening and watching the birds. Robia never missed her grandson's baseball games or her granddaughter's choir performances. Robia was always there for everyone. She will be truly missed.
A committal service will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, in the Chapel of Memories at Roselawn Memorial Park with Pastor David Rockhill officiating. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at: www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
