Robert T. McGaffney, 88, of Terre Haute, formerly of Clinton, died Sept. 16, 2017, at 4 a.m. in his residence. He was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Clinton, to Thomas McGaffney and Cecilia Kutch McGaffney.
He was a US Army World War II veteran, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6653 in Clinton. He retired as an engineer from US Steel. In recent years, he had worked part-time at Frist Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ann Terstenyak; his wife, Henrietta McGaffney; a grandson, Matthew May; and one great-grandson, Kingston May.
He is survived by three daughters, Shawn and Alex May of Dennison, Ill., Vivian and Steve McCoy of West Terre Haute, and Robbin and Danny Grigsby of Avon; three stepsons, Gary and Carol Maxwell of Valparaiso, Stanley Maxwell of Florida, and Paul and Shirley Maxwell of Virginia; six grandchildren, Angie and John Collins, Brent and Melyssa McCoy, Jennifer and Phillip Williams, John and Andrea McCoy, Sara and Josh Taylor, and Racheal May; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lexie May, Tanner May, Travis May, Jack Collins, Tyler Norris, Savannah McCoy, Gavin McCoy, Nate Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Ian Williams, and Gage Williams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clinton, with Father Varghese Mailiakkal officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
