Robert Duane Mackey, 79, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born March 4, 1938, in Flint, Mich., to Roy L. Mackey and Eunice Johnson Mackey.
He was a systems analyst. He began his career in this field with the University of Illinois, later transferring to Owens Corning in Toledo, Ohio, and lastly with Columbia House in Terre Haute, where he retired as the systems analyst manager in 2000 after many years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Marie Tabb Mackey, whom he married Oct. 4, 1958, at Grace Methodist Church in Newton, Ill.; his four children, Robert L. Mackey, Patrick D. Mackey and his wife Lori, Joel T. Mackey and his wife Angela, and Jill Keser and her husband Erkan; nine grandchildren, Clint Mackey (Leslee), Jessica Cook (Brad), Jacinta Marshall (Tyler), Natasha Buza, Lucas Mackey (Natalie), Daniel Mackey, Julia Mackey, Conner Mackey, and Asya Keser; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah, Thomas, Kimberlynn, Nicholas, Ava, Aries, Liam, Kaylee, and Brayden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Donna Seaman.
Robert was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in West Terre Haute, where they attended regularly. He was a graduate of Urbana High School, Urbana, Ill., class of 1956. A veteran of the U.S. Army. His main hobby for many years has been restoring a 1965 C30 chevrolet dump truck. He loved to go out for breakfast to visit with friends. He also loved having family dinners and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Fitzpatrick Funeral home with Pastors H. Van McQueen and Doug McQueen officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. Cremation has been scheduled after services with burial of his ashes to be at a later date in Bethesda Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or Providence Pantry with envelopes available in the funeral home.
