Robert's Story

Robert W. Kulow, 83 of Brazil, passed away at his home at 1:30 a.m. on July 17, 2017. He was born in Terre Haute, the son of Albert Kulow and Gertrude Mary Travioli Kulow. He graduated from Laboratory High School, Class of 1952. He attended Indiana University and Indiana State University where he studied History and Literature.
On January 15, 1955, he married Nancy Bowman Kulow. Together they raised their family in Clay County. They have been members of the First Presbyterian Church for many years. Bob served as a Deacon and an Elder of the church and both have been loyal members.
His working career began with Household Finance and later Nichols Loan in Brazil. He last worked as a salesman for Wadsworth Heating and Cooling in Terre Haute, for over twenty years.
Bob was a member of Toastmasters, and the Exchange Club of Terre Haute and he was actively involved in the "Bikes for Tikes Project." He was a member of the Civil War Round Table discussion group at DePauw University. Bob and Nancy enjoyed traveling to New England for many years, and whale watching was always a favorite time. They shared their adventures to the East Coast with their grandchildren as well.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nancy Kulow; children, Alison Pond and husband Jim of Brazil and son, Mark Kulow and wife Pam of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Sarah Kulow and fiancé Ben Waldron of Dickens-Heath England, Jordan Pond and wife Danielle of Evansville, and Hannah Hughes and husband Shawn of Brazil; great-granddaughter Madelyn Pond; one sister Carol Ann Kulow of Terre Haute.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son in 1957.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawson-Miller Chapel. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Gary Scroggins officiating. Music will be provided by Steve McCullough and Dr. Matthew Latta. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
