Richard O. Taylor was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Terre Haute, Ind. He departed this life Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. He was born to Mary Etta and Jackson Taylor, and was employed at Stran Steel for 23 years. He retired and then worked for Pinkerton.
He graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School, and enlisted to the Army for 11 years. He was a member of American Legion #340, Order of the Eastern Star (43 years) and Masonic Lodge (50 years).
He was preceded in death by both parents, Mary and Jackson Taylor; three brothers, Jackson, General and Vernal Taylor; one sister, Beatrice Taylor (Holmes); grandson, Richard L. Battle; great-grandson, Justin Rich; one nephew, General Taylor; and two nieces, Carrie Taylor (Tyler) and Earlene Taylor (Howard).
He leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife of 62 years, Margaret Taylor; four children, John Taylor (North Chicago), Hiawatha (Ron) Battle (Gary, Ind.), Delores Taylor (Terre Haute) and James (Tammy) Taylor (Chicago, Ill.); eight grandkids; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one niece, Mary (Hershal) Tyler (Indianapolis); three nephews, Leroy (Annetta) Taylor (Terre Haute), Jack (Van) Taylor (Terre Haute) and Richard E. Taylor (Indianapolis); brother-in-law, Franklin Brown; sister, Saretta Brown; and a host of nieces and nephews, five generations.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, in Second Baptist Church, 1400 Oak St., Terre Haute, Ind.; 10 to 11 a.m. Masons/Eastern Star ceremony, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. visitation, 1 p.m. funeral services.
