Richard Thomas McDonald, 70, of Carbon, passed away Aug. 2, 2017, at Union Hospital.
Richard was born Feb. 4, 1947, in Marshall, Illinois, the son of the late Paul and Hariett (Craig) McDonald. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1965. Richard served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, until he was honorably discharged. He worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections, as a release coordinator for 36 years, until his retirement in 2012. Richard married the love of his life, Kay Phillips, on Feb. 8, 1969.
Richard was an enthusiast of Northview sports. His first involvement began when he coached his son in various sports. From there, he traveled with Kay to watch Scott play college baseball. He then followed his son's coaching career and to this day was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed Duke basketball, Los Angeles Dodgers baseball, and hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ann Hofmann and Nancy Jones.
Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kay McDonald; son, Scott McDonald and wife Leslee; and granddaughters, Madison McDonald and Bradee McDonald; as well as extended family and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clay County 4-H Rabbit Club, 6656 N.
