Reese Carlysle Clapp, 89, of Terre Haute, was called home March 8, 2017. He was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Coles County, Ill., to Harry and Leona Ruth (Swinford) Clapp.
Reese is survived by his spouse of 64 ½ years, Norma (nee Davis) Clapp; his brother, Jim Clapp (Ruby); his children, Peggy Cline (Don) of Paris, Ill., Douglas Clapp of Paris, Leonard Clapp (Sun) of Rockville, Rebecca Clapp of Terre Haute, and Paula Ray (Carl) of Mason, Ohio; plus his 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray Clapp; his son, Vincent Clapp; and a great-granddaughter, Faith Koerner.
Reese was a veteran of World War II. He attended World Gospel Church and was a retiree of The Pillsbury Company since 1987. Reese and Norma raised six children, kept rabbits and chickens, and grew fruits and vegetables in the Terre Town subdivision. Reese was a capable nut cracker, tomato and turnip gardener, fruit and vegetable canner, waffle maker, and baker. He enjoyed food. He was lovingly called son, brother, husband, dad, gramps, grandpa, papa, poppop, neighbor, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heartland or Lincolnland Hospice organizations.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 13, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute. Alfy Austin will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made at:
