Raymond "Gene"'s Story
CENTER POINT - Raymond E. (Gene) Drake, 98, of Center Point, passed away at Hospice House in South Bend, on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017.
Mr. Drake was born on July 13, 1919, in Sullivan County to Paulina Carolina Lester and Hosea Drake. He graduated from Sullivan High School in Sullivan. He was married to the love of his life, Eva Mae (Butts) for over 60 years; she preceded him in death in 2004.
Also preceding him in death were Mr. Drake's brothers, Lester Drake, Donald Drake and Floyd Drake; and sisters, Ruth England and Ruby Brewer, as well as a son, Harry Hubert Drake.
Mr. Drake was a jack-of-all trades, doing auto body work, painting, and welding. Over his lifetime, he also drove delivery trucks for a bakery, as well as a machine shop. He worked the majority of his life at American Vitrified as a foreman. He loved history, travel, reading, football and mowing his yard and fields.
Mr. Drake was a long-time active member of Ashboro United Methodist Church, serving in many leadership roles over 60 years.
Mr. Drake is survived by sons, Hosea (Cheryn) Drake of Granger, and Roger (Jane) Drake of Terre Haute; and daughter, Euleta Blair of Hamlet. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joshua Drake, Chrystal Komp, Andrew Drake, Rebecca Laurenzana, Benjamin (Ray) Blair, Jeremy Blair, Scott Maesch, Brett Maesch and Anne Beach; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p..m., with pastor Bob Kumpf officiating.
