YORKVILLE, Ill. - Randall E. Heckelsberg, 64, of Yorkville, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at his home. He was born Aug.1, 1952, in Terre Haute, Ind., the son of Earl and Betty (Collins) Heckelsberg.
Mr. Heckelsberg retired as a computer consultant from Accenture in St. Charles, Ill., and was most recently employed by Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Ill. Randall served his country proudly five years at various duty stations throughout the United States and Southeast Asia, both as a U.S. Army Combat Medic and a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces. He was a volunteer for many year with the Bristol-Kendall EMS and Fire Departments in Yorkville, and later served as a firefighter-paramedic with the Oswego Fire Department in Oswego, Ill.
He was most often an unassuming man with a strong sense of fairness, great tolerance and a truly generous spirit. He was an enthusiastic patron of the great outdoors, and taught his children to appreciate the sanctity that only a quiet moment in nature provides. In short, he was everything you want in a father, grandfather and friend - brave, kind, generous, loving, forgiving and proud - and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Bender of Holly Springs, N.C.; his children, Daniel (Melinda) Heckelsberg of Aurora, Ill., Lara (Kristopher) Gawrych of Yorkville, Justin (Katie) Heckelsberg of Lake Shore, Md., and Leslie Heckelsberg of Yorkville; his grandchildren, Rowan, Oliver, Ian, Everett, Nolan, Zuri, Max, and Brynn; his brothers, Paul (Diana) Heckelsberg of Terre Haute and Martin (Barb) Heckelsberg of Holly Springs; his former wife, the mother of their four children together, Cindy Heckelsberg of Yorkville; Maureen Heckelsberg, former wife; Chloe, Wesley and Caroline Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Heckelsberg.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 4 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 N. Bridge St., Yorkville. Interment will take place at a later date.
