Phyllis M. Kirkham Mendenhall, 78, of Terre Haute and formerly of Rockville, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Springhill Village in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born Oct. 9, 1939, in Clinton, Indiana, to the late Dayton and Alice Soey Kirkham.
She grew up in Parke County, Indiana, and graduated from Rockville High School and was a member of Immanuel Southern Baptist Church. She lived all over the United States and Italy with her Air Force husband, Russell Mendenhall, whom she married May 18, 1958, in Parke County.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Russell; five sons, Randy (Julie) Mendenhall of Huger, South Carolina, Rodney Mendenhall of Clinton, Robert (Diana) Mendenhall of Dana, Todd (Lorrie) Mendenhall of Monroe City, and Tim Mendenhall and his companion Wendy of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren, Dustin, Drew, Kari, Stacey, Steph, Doug, Jamie, Ryan, Michael, Matthew, Rebecca, Rachael and Chase; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Roger Douglas Mendenhall; brother, Walter Kirkham; sister, Louise Kirkham White; and daughter-in-law, Kim Mendenhall.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with the Rev. Mark Houvenagle officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gooch Funeral Home.
