Pearl Allen, 106, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her home in Terre Haute. She was born in Terre Haute, on May 24, 1911, to the late Fred and Louise (Brown) Smith.
Pearl graduated from Honey Creek High School in 1929, and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1932. She married her first husband, Clarence Jack Long, on March 31, 1940; and her second husband, Floyd M. Allen, on Oct. 15, 1969; they both preceded her in death.
Pearl worked as a private registered nurse for several years before going to work at the Clay County Hospital during the war. She also was on staff at Vigo Ordnance and the Straw Steel Company. Pearl loved to travel, visiting most of the United States as well as Switzerland, Austria, England and Ireland. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brazil, Clay County R.N. Club, the Nightingale Club in Terre Haute, and the St. Anthony's Alumni.
Survivors include Sandy Haggart, Terre Haute; Franklin "Woody" (Dorothy) Allen, Bakersfield, Calif.; Barbara (Leon) Mercer, Carbon; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday June 23, 2017, at Moore Funeral Home, in Brazil, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute.
