Paul's Story

Paul Eugene Chapell, 81, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away July 31, 2017. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 24, 1936 to Merle and Ruth (Gummere) Chapell. Paul served in the United States Marine Corps after high school and attained the rank of sergeant. Paul was employed at Weston Paper for nearly 30 years and spent many evenings officiating hundreds of Junior High and High School games of baseball, football and basketball. During his retirement he was an active member at the Joseph A. Bray Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Post 104. Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marlene (Whited) Chapell; daughter Karen Ketner; son Scott (Melissa) Chapell; 5 grandchildren Ashley (Curtis) Jones, Darcy Ketner (Chris Woodard), Derek Ketner, Jacob Chapell, and Sarah Chapell; four great grandchildren Nathan, Lucas, Wyatt, and Cooper; siblings Richard Chapell and Carolyn Roundtree; sister-in-law JoAnne Chapell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. In honoring Paul's wishes, cremation has been chosen. A Celebration of his life is scheduled for Friday, August 4, 2017 at 1:00p.m. in the American Legion Post #104, 2640 Fort Harrison Road, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804.
