Nancy Jane Stowe, age 74, of Gulfport, Miss., passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Doty; her father, Floyd Stowe; and her two sisters, Viola "Sis" Thomas and Jennifer Stowe.
Survivors include her three children, Michael Callecod and wife Angie of Pass Christian, Miss., David Callecod and wife Kim of Lafayette, La., and Laticia Miller and husband, Chuck of Grayslake, Ill.; two sisters, Margie Stoffers and Judy Keyes Johnson, both of Terre Haute, Ind.; grandchildren, Ellen Kingston, Ian Callecod, Nolan Callecod, Will Miller, Kate Koenig and David Callecod; her beloved dog, Ivy; and her ex-husband, Mike Callecod, who dutifully cared for her in the final months of her life.
Nancy, a resident of Gulfport, was a native of Terre Haute, and graduated from Otter Creek High School. She retired in 1998 as the secretary of the Iron Workers Local 439 in Terre Haute. She also spent many years working in the business office at both Union Hospital in Terre Haute and Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
She deeply loved her grandchildren, watching sports, cooking and her constant companion, Ivy. She also loved keeping up with her beloved extended family via Facebook.
Nancy courageously battled Parkinson's disease for almost two decades. She fought bravely and never let the chronic shaking define her. She had a quick wit and sense of humor, which continued even into the final hours of her life. Nancy, through her life, taught all of us so much about love, forgiveness and the deep responsibility we have to care for one another.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on July 1, 2017, from 12 noon until 3 p.m. at the German Oberlander Club in Terre Haute. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Bay Ratz Marching Battery, 630 E. 2nd St., Pass Christian, MS 39571; Lafayette General Foundation, 1214 Coolidge Ave., Lafayette, LA 70503; or Stepping Out for Parkinson's at sofpd.myevent.com/3/donate.htm.
