Mickey and Nancy's Story
Mickey J. Mewhinney was born on June 24, 1932. He passed away on June 9, 2017, in his home in Lakeland, Fla.
Preceded in death by his father, William B. Mewhinney; mother, Margarat Simpson; his brother, Willard Mewhinney; and his sisters, Rita Wilson, Winnie Pearl Mewhinney and Ramona "June" Coogan. Survivors include daughter, Jill (David) Engel of Land o' Lakes, Fla.; precious grandchildren, Candice, Alec and Alena; his brothers, William "Ben" Mewhinney of Arizona and Nathan and Heather Mewhinney of Florida; and his sister, Margaret Harris of Indiana.
Mickey retired from the United States Postal Service, and was a Freemason and veteran of the Korean War.
Nancy J. Mewhinney (Green) was born on Sept. 6, 1940, and passed away peacefully in her home on Aug. 18, 2017.
Preceded in death by her brother, Gerald "Jerry" Green; father, William F. "Bill"; and her mother, Geraldine Ruth (Layman) Green.
Survivors include daughter, Jill (David) Engel; grandchildren, Candice, Alec and Alena; her brothers, George Green and his wife Kay of Donna, Texas, Wesley Green and his wife Bridgette of Winnapow, N.C.; three sisters, Violet Sparks Green, Wilma Green of Terre Haute, and Mrythel Frye and her husband Bernie of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews;
Nancy enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader, volunteering for Special Olypics and VITA and anything to help other people out.
Celebration of life memorial services will be at Fowler Park from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017. Nancy and Mickey Mewhinney will be laid to rest at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion, on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.
