Michael Harold Welch, 67, of Terre Haute, went to join his family and The Lord in Heaven on March 21, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on Aug. 8, 1949, in Terre Haute, to Winston B. Welch and Jeanette (Botts) Welch. He married LuAnn Sills on March 28, 1987.
Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, LuAnn Welch of Terre Haute; children, Traci McCreery (Mark) and Ann Rittenberg (David), and Jeff Edington (Lisa); grandchildren, Brock, Mason, Michayla, Jordyn, Hillary, Ally, Katanna, and Kyle; sister, Sondra Sue Pruitt; uncles, Bill Welch and Charles Botts Jr.; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sherie Carter and Jeanette Welch; infant sister, Winifred Ann Welch; and infant brother, Winston B. Welch Jr.
Michael proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, leaving high school to serve in the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. He worked for International Paper, retiring after 36 years. He worked part time at Menards. Michael was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He had a smile that could light up the room. He will be truly missed.
Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Roselawn Funeral Home. A celebration of Michael's life will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with military honors provided by the Rosedale American Legion.
