Melvin 'Mel''s Story
Melvin Dewayne "Mel" Clark, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, in I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Sept. 15, 1945, in South Bend, to Paul Clark and Irene (Crist) Clark.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Martha Ann (Criss) Clark of Terre Haute, whom he married on Dec. 24, 1966; children, Brian D. Clark of Jacksonville, Fla., Bradley A. Clark of Jacksonville, Brandon K. Clark of Hollywood, Fla, Bryce A. Clark of Jacksonville, Sara A. Clark of Terre Haute, Carrie A. Clark of Terre Haute, Carolyne M. Clark of Terre Haute, Tiffany L. Worell of Sullivan, Brandon A. Clark of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Irene Richmond of Greentown; siblings, two sisters and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mel graduated from Indiana State Teacher's College (now Indiana State University). He worked for Greene County Welfare and the State of Indiana Welfare Department, in quality control, retiring after 30 years. He attended Maryland Community and Greenwood Baptist Church. Mel loved his family and of course all people. He never met a stranger.
Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 S. Meridian St., Jasonville. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, all at Friendly Grove Church in Lewis. Funeral services are 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at the church, with Pastor David Smith and the Rev. Marvin Cheek officiating. Per Mel's request cremation will follow.
