Melinda "Jane" Chestnut, 87, of West Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, in her home. She was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Duke, Mo., to William Bryan Ousley and Helena Krafczik Ousley. Her husband, Clarence Chestnut, whom she married on Oct. 11, 1952, preceded her in death April 5, 1986.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Carol Chestnut of West Terre Haute; a daughter, Karen Wildman of Washington, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jessica Bates (Ryan), Allison Lindsay (Adam), Bryan Chestnut (fiancée Krista Zieg), Megan Riney (Matt) and Robin Wildman; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister Leona Gee.
Jane enjoyed sewing, painting, cake decorating, bird watching, fishing, and gardening. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Home Economic Club, a former board member of the Audubon Society and had attended Bethesda United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Roush officiating. Private burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands in West Terre Haute with envelopes available in the funeral home.
