Mary L. Wagner, 89, of St. Bernice, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville. She was born in Chicago, on Feb. 26, 1928, the daughter of Charles Liebold and Virginia Eggars Liebold. Mary loved family and friends and didn't know a stranger. Mary married Verlin Wagner on Feb. 12, 1938. He is deceased.
Her interests included camping, boating, walking, and a love of reading. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Legion Women's Auxiliary, Precinct Committee woman, Meals on Wheels volunteer, Clinton Hospital volunteer, St. Bernice Fire Department Auxiliary, Teacher's Friend volunteer. In the early days of St. Bernice, Mary helped bring water to the town and worked as a telephone operator. She worked the books in Brown's Store and at Colson's in Paris, Ill.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Heidi Liebold Gobreski and her husband Dale of Crawfordsville and Veronica Cook of Leander, Texas; three grandchildren, Lisa Cook, Matt Gobreski, and Jonathan Gobreski; special nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephew; and a large extended family.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Verlin; sister, Marjorie (Paul) Alabaugh; brother, Gerald (Alice) Liebold; brother, Charles (Jo and Madelaine) Liebold; and sister and brother-in-law, Norma Wagner Gedrick and Charles Gedrick.
Visitation will be at Frist Funeral Home, 458 Blackman St., in Clinton, today, Sept. 29, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at the funeral home with Father Varghese Maliakkal officiating.
