Mary Ann Varda, 88, of Carmel, passed away with her family by her side on Dec. 1, 2017, at her residence. She was born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Terre Haute, to Roger and Fernanda Gourdouze.
She attended Garfield High School, and she loved to cook, sew and read romance novels. Mary was an avid bowler, liked to play bingo, bridge and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her greatest love was her family. Mary worked for many years at The Casual Shop in Twelve Points. The Indianapolis Colts was her favorite football team and loved to watch Peyton Manning play.
She is survived by her children, two daughters, Kelly (Varda) Samodral and Karen (Varda) Turner; a son, Michael Jon Varda; grandchildren, Amy Varda Brown, Brian Varda, Nicole Knipe, Heather Meaney, Katie Varda, Tony Varda, Andrew Turner, Nick Govardman, John Turner, and Tyler Samodral; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Bob Gourdouze, Norma McCann and Rod Gourdouze.
Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with a visitation prior to the services from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Online condolences may be made at:
