Mary L. Taylor CLAY CITY - Mary Lucille Taylor, 96, of Clay City, passed from this life into a new forever on Aug. 7, 2018. She was born on March 11, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Emily (Wilfong) Kompst in Columbia City. Mary graduated with the class of 1940 from Bloomington High School.
Mary was the devoted wife of John F. Taylor of Bloomington, whom she married on Nov. 21, 1942. They were married for 43 years, until John passed away Dec. 11, 1985.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Ann Taylor; granddaughter-in-law, Cathy Taylor; grandson, John Taylor; siblings, Thomas Kompst and Eva Kinser Cochran.
Mary was the loving mother of three children, Joanna (Jack) Harlan, David (Linda) Taylor and Charles (Kay) Taylor; grandchildren, JoElla (Fred) Barrie, Jill (Filipe) Huicochea, Richard (Jennifer) Taylor, Emma (Ben) Alley, Jason Taylor and Jamy (Mitch) Whitacker; great-grandmother of Emily (Joey), AJ, Taylor, Devin, Ethan, Quintin and Madilynn; and great-great-grandmother to Scotty Gentry and Theo Gentry.
Mary was a member of the Clay City Free Methodist Church for over 50 years and a former member of the Calico Quilters.
Mary was known for her love for God and missions. In earlier years she was active in projects in the community and overseas to help those in need. She was known in the community for her beautiful handmade quilts, as well as her love of both quilts and quilting.
Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., Clay City, Ind., on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery in Bloomington.
