Madonna's Story

Madonna Mae O'Brien Fischer Strickland, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Dec. 14, 2017. She was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Terre Haute, to Clifford O'Brien and Edith (Markle) O'Brien.
Madonna retired from Vigo County School Corporation. She taught at Ben Franklin, Hoosier Prairie, Lab School, and lastly Honey Creek. Madonna enjoyed shopping, gardening, reading, and walking her dog. She loved to listen to music and dance. Madonna was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard Fischer; second husband, Budd Strickland; and siblings, Mary O'Brien, Clifford O'Brien, Naomi O'Brien and Charlotte O'Brien-Manuel.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Sue Fischer-Zigler and her husband Rick and Marsha Lynn Fischer Ross and her husband Mark; grandchildren, Ricky Zigler, Ryan Zigler, Callie Zigler-Schuford, Crystal Zigler-Leyda, Lacey Ross-Bentley and Lucas Ross; great-grandchildren, Caylin Schuford, Skyler Leyda, Jake Schuford, Rylee Leyda, Madilyn Bentley, Malorie Bentley and Macoy Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th St., Terre Haute. Julie Lake will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday, from 11 a.m. until service time. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
