Louis's Story

MARSHALL, Ill. - Louis A. Marvin, 93, of Marshall passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home. He was born July 3, 1923, the son of Ernest and Lillie Belle Davison Marvin.
In his younger years he was employed in the steel mills at Gary, Ind., and later was employed at Grantham's Automotive Repair, also in Gary. He later moved back to the area where he was raised and was employed by Ralph Prevo Motor Co., where he repaired cars, trucks and farm machinery, which he did until his retirement.
He married Betty L. Carpenter on Dec. 15, 1945, at Marshall and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Melody Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Olive Grindle, Reba Burns, Lillie Burns, Isabelle Marvin, Joye Monk, George Marvin, Charles Marvin and Harold Marvin.
He served this nation in the U.S. Army during World War II, and had been member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and Clark County American Legion Post 90.
In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt and spend time in his garden.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. CDT Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home, with burial following in the Marshall Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
