Lois Nickel, formerly of Terre Haute, died in Tucson, Ariz., on March 8. 2017. She was born in Terre Haute, on Dec. 5. 1924, to John and Ethel Nickel.
Lois was a graduate of Garfield High School and Indiana State College (ISU). She earned a master's degree from The University of Denver. She taught for several years at Garfield High School, where she also was the Dean of Girls. She also was a counselor at Vigo North High School until her retirement. She was a member of Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Terre Haute.
Upon retirement she relocated to Tucson, where she resided with her sisters, Marguerite Ratcliffe and Doris Stokes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Marguerite Ratcliffe, Mildred Nickel and Doris Stokes.
She is survived by a nephew, William Ratcliffe of Lexington, Mo.
A graveside service will be today, March 17, 2017, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Remembrances may be made in her name to the Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Terre Haute.
