Linda Darlene Phelps, 67, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born July 20, 1950, in San Antonio, to Robert Power and Leona Crowther Power.
She had been a CNA for many years for the Sisters of Providence at St. Mary-of-the-Woods and later worked for Southern Care Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Poke" Phelps.
She is survived by four children, Bayja Stone and her husband Chris, Sonya Riggs, Charles Riggs Jr. and his companion Starla, and Derrick Riggs and his wife Charity; her companion, Bill Jones; three sisters, Deborah Bedford (David), Paula Norton, and Lois Greenlee; 13 grandchildren, William Lewis V, Amishia Kreft, Amanda Browning, Rachel LaMaster, Timothy Browning, Tiffany Livingston, Meranda Riggs, Ronda Lowe, Kortney Brown, Kalayla Morris, Quinton Litton, Derrick Riggs Jr. "Baby D", and Jazman Riggs; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her father, Robert Power; her mother, and stepfather, Leona Cook and Odell "Cookie" Cook; a daughter, Angela Riggs; two brothers, Terry Cook and Odey Cook; and her grandparents who raised her, Virgil and Esther Crowther.
Linda was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 501 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Young Men's Club, all in West Terre Haute. She attended West Vigo High School. She enjoyed watching NASCAR races with Jimmy Johnson being her favorite driver. She enjoyed taking rides to Fairbanks park to watch the ducks as well as drives in the country to enjoy the nature and animals. The family would like to give a special thank you to Linda's friends Tammy Lewis, Kim Hill, and Darla Lowe for all the time they spent with Linda.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Dunlap Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday.
