Lavada's Story

Lavada Suzan (Parcus) Collins, 81, of Centerpoint, passed away unexpectedly May 12, 2017, at her home. She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Terre Haute, the daughter of William W. Parcus and Mary A. (Harden) Parcus. She graduated from Gerstmeyer High School with the class of 1954. Following high school, she married Donald Edward Collins on Jan. 31, 1954.
Sue worked as the zoning officer for the City of Brazil during Mayor Crabb's tenure. She also worked for the Brick Layers Union, Local 4, in Indiana and Kentucky, as a health insurance representative.
Sue loved to make people laugh. She acted as a clown at hospitals and nursing homes all over the Wabash Valley. She also enjoyed puppetry and painting. Sue was a member of the Centerpoint United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star in Bowling Green and the Red Hat Society.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, William W. Parcus and Mary (Harden) Heffner.
Sue is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Collins of Centerpoint; four children, Randell G. Collins (Mary Ellen) of Centerpoint, Penny J. West (Alan) of Brazil, Julie A. Collins (Dan Johnson) of Dennison, Ill., and Matthew T. Collins (Karyn) of Sachse, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew A. Collins, Elizabeth S. Collins (Christopher Hingst), Rachel M. Christmas, Hannah J. Mesaeh (Bill), Jessie A. Riddell (George), Cody A. Stearley, Benjamin J. Stearley, and Danica A. Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Collins, Tabitha Christmas, Amber Christmas, William Mesaeh, Elijah Mesaeh, Abner Mesaeh, Emma Mesaeh, Luke Mesaeh, Micah Mesaeh, and Jaxon Stearley.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centerpoint United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 200 S. Cherry St., Centerpoint, IN 47840.
