L. Eldon McCullough


L. Eldon McCullough, 81 of Lewis, died suddenly June 9, 2019 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He had collapsed following church services and was surrounded by his family and loving congregation.
He was born February 28, 1938 in Clay County, Indiana, the son of Melvin McCullough and Dorothy Brush McCullough. He graduated from Coalmont High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Eldon was united in marriage to Vinita Shidler on July 26, 1959. He has been a life-long farmer. He was just in the fields this past Saturday. He was a member of the Briley Chapel Church and had been attending First Baptist Church in Terre Haute recently.
He was a member of the Hoosier 2-Cylinder Club for over 30 years and enjoyed his John Deere tractors. He was also a Gideon.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Vinita McCullough of Lewis; one son, Eddie McCullough, also of Lewis; daughter, Jayme McCullough of Terre Haute; sisters Elaine McBride and Jane Everhart; sisters-in-law, Pat McCullough and Shirley Shidler; brothers-in-law, Larry Shidler and Tom Ellis; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David McCullough; brothers-in-law, David Everhart, David McBride, Dale Shidler; sisters-in-law, Loretta Ellis and Lois Shidler.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Revs. Bernie Jackson and Darren Sluder officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 and again Friday one hour prior to services. If friends so desire, donations may be directed to the Gideon's or to Briley Chapel Church, 5239 W.
