He had a challenging childhood and youth. He was a "Wild Child" from Merom, known to quite a few folks for his antics as a teen and young adult. However, as he got older and learned of the grace and love offered by God our Father through Jesus Christ, Johnny's focus in life changed. His greatest desire was to love others and be as Christ-like as he could. He was well aware of his shortcomings and failures, but he continued to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling." He was a fine man, a wonderful friend and husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a caring brother, brother-in-law and uncle. His most cherished title, however, was Christian. Johnny whole-heartedly attempted to honor God with his life; he will be sorely missed.
Services to celebrate his life will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the Merom Town Hall, with the Rev. Bill Sam Phegley remembering him and how God touched his life.
Holmes Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
