John Joseph Ofsansky Jr., 59, of Terre Haute, passed away at his home. He was born on Sept. 4, 1957, in Terre Haute, to John Joseph and Geraldine Catherine (Scheetz) Ofsansky.
John is survived by his sisters, Shirley Ann Mowell of Houston, Texas, and Margaret Mary Bledsoe of Huntington, Ind.; nieces, Gina Mowell Nyland, Erin Bledsoe Quinlan and Meredith Bledsoe; nephews, Jeffery Nyland and Michael Quinlan; a great-niece, Riley Meadow Quinlan; and many cousins and friends who were instrumental in his life, providing numerous rides to Indianapolis for John's doctor appointments and hospital stays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Mary and Paul Ofsansky, and Margaret and Lucian Scheetz; aunts, Mary Muccolini, Julia Brunovsky, Helen Marone, Margaret McKee, Kathrine Ofsansky, Annie Melton, Sis Scheetz, Jean Scheetz and Loretta Scheetz; and uncles, Joseph Ofsansky, Michael Ofsansky, Joseph McKee, Cecil Melton, John Brunovsky, Gene Muccolini, Kenneth Scheetz, Robert Scheetz, Donald Scheetz and Leonard Scheetz.
John worked for many years as a janitor for the Vigo County School Corp., on the mowing crew at Spectrum, and also worked at Mogger's. Most of all, John enjoyed and loved his family. He took great care of his mom until her passing. John enjoyed nature, from gardening to hiking. He rode his bicycle, sometimes 30 miles a day, usually to a park or animal sanctuary. On weekends, John could be found watching IU basketball or Colts football. He was always known for his upbeat attitude and big heart. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Visitation will be held an hour prior to mass. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at:
