Jim's Story

Jim Botner, of St. Bernice, was born in his home in St. Bernice, on August 21, 1927 to Paul H. Botner and Mary K. (Gibbons) Botner. He passed away July 29, 2017 at Clinton Gardens. His parents, seven siblings, two brothers, and five sisters preceded him in death. He married Shirley Ann Eslinger in March 1946, who also preceded him in death, on August 7, 2016.
Jim is survived by their three children and their families; Rebecca (Botner) and Wayne VanAndel and their children, Aaron and Audra; Timothy and Deborah (Mitchell) Botner and their children, Ben and Tanny (Stewart) Botner, their children, Andrew and Carson, Kimberly (Botner) and Jason VanRoekel and their children, Nikolas and Ivan; James B. and Diana (Redman) Botner and their children, James A. and Sarah (Olier) Botner and their children, Blake, Andrew, Chase, and Eli; Sarah (Botner) and Joe Newman and their children, Levi and Lydia.
He graduated from St. Bernice High School in 1945 and from Milwaukee Bible Institute in 1949 as an ordained minister. He enjoyed singing and made many lifelong friends there. He was a member of Kidley Community Church. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling with his wife, Shirley.
At Jim's homegoing, he had 60 years as a member of the Terre Haute Pipefitters Local 157. He had a great respect for his fellow members and their skills. His prayer was that many of them will meet him in heaven.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 2, from 12-2 PM at Frist Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 PM with Reverend Larry Kelsheimer officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
