Jeannette Denise Nelson, 49, of Terre Haute, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. She was born July 13, 1968, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Mary Lou Nelson of Terre Haute and Victor Eugene Nelson of Dayton, Ohio.
She was one half of a set of twin girls affectionately known as Fat Momma and Skinny Momma, named by their grandmother. During her early childhood years, she attended Fuqua Elementary and DeVaney elementary schools, Sarah Scott Junior High School and Terre Haute South Vigo High School. After high school Jeannette studied at Barbizon Modeling School, where she was regarded at the top of her class and she was contracted to model in ads for J.C. Penney Department Store. Jeannette loved learning and she studied business administration at Ivy Tech Community College for two years.
Jeannette's current employment was with Conduent, where she worked for the last nine years being a social worker for the state of Indiana. Jeannette also worked of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, H & R Block, Homey's Que and Grill, Columbia Enamel and Kmart.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Jane Booker, and Luther and Winnie Nelson; and her beloved twin sister, Jennifer Marie Nelson; and beloved Uncle Timothy Booker.
Her survivors include her loving daughter, Chaiela Edinburgh, 17 years old; and loving son, Zekiel Edinburgh, 15 years old, of Terre Haute; mother, Mary Lou Nelson of Terre Haute; father, Victor Nelson of Dayton; brother, William Lee Fairrow III of Terre Haute; and sisters, Regina Nelson-Fambro of Atlanta, Tonya Fairrow of Indianapolis, and Victoria Nelson of Dayton.
Jeannette became a member of Greater Kingdom International Church under the leadership of Dr. Tino Smith in 2007. Jeannette loved worshipping and serving God and was a very active member in many different ministries and a faithful tither. Jeannette felt it was important to make serving God a priority in her children's lives.
Visitation hours will be at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2701 Poplar St., Terre Haute, from 9 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, with the funeral services immediately following at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Bishop Arnick Shouse Sr., with repass immediately following the funeral at the church. Flowers can be sent to Memorial United Methodist Church, Terre Haute; or in lieu of flowers, there has been an account established for the minor children of Jeannette at Terre Haute Savings Bank. Deposits can be made into the "Children of Jeannette Nelson Fund" at Terre Haute Savings Bank. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
