LINTON - James "Jim" Prudhomme, age 83, of Linton, passed away peacefully at Greene County General Hospital on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017. He was born in Linton on May 23, 1934, the son of Paul A. Prudhomme and Trella (Corbin) Prudhomme.
Jim was a 1952 graduate of Linton Stockton High School, where he was on the 1951 Western Indiana Conference Wabash Valley Championship football team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He began working at Indiana Bell AmeriTech as an installer repairman. James was a member of the American Legion Post 22, a life-time member of BPO Elks 866, the V.F.W. Post 7118, and the St. Peter Catholic Church of Linton.
During his early years, he played Triple D Baseball in the Appalachian League for the Philadelphia Phillies Minor League Baseball Team in Polaski, Va., Bristol, Tenn., and Welch, W.V.
He is survived by his daughter, Julia (Kent) Harting of Linton; daughter-in-law, Tawni Prudhomme of Linton; two sisters, Ernestine Ferry of Linton and Pauline (Ray) Armstrong of Miami Town, Ohio; three grandsons, Steve (Rita) Kaho and their son Logan, Garrett Kaho, and Josh (Karen) Prudhomme; his special friend, Lila Massa and her son, Dan; and his dog, Rosie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Prudhomme; his son, Andy Prudhomme; two infant grandsons, James Ryan and Andrew Jared Prudhomme; and a brother-in-law, Bob Ferry.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, with Father Biju Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 22. Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 - 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greene County Humane Society through the funeral home.
