Ishmael's Story

Ishmael Phipps, 97, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born on April 3, 1920, in Clinton, to the late Roy and Mary L. (Ruby) Phipps.
Ishmael served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and married Mary Louise Cassidy on April 3, 1942. He worked several different jobs in the area, including McCurdy's, Timberland, and the Ayres McCarel Clay Company. Ish enjoyed traveling, watching Cardinal baseball, gardening, watching birds, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise; brothers, James, Homer, Lawrence, Harmon, Everett, and Wayne Phipps; sisters, Ester Hartman, Lucy Swaim, Gladys Hartman, and Leatha Shoaf; grandsons, Stephen Knox and Troy Fields; and son-in-law, Bob Fields.
Survivors include daughters, Diane Fields of Carbon and Stephanie (Stanley Wayne) Knox of Carbon; brother, Ivan Phipps of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Rose Reynolds of Carbon; grandchildren, Lynn (Alan) Hughbanks, Kristina (Christopher) McVay, and Amy (Bill) Jordan; great-grandchildren, Allison Knox, Chelsea (Ronnie) Montague, Danielle (JJ) Bemis, Nicholas Hughbanks, Benjamin (Kayla) Jordan, Travis (Lindsey) Fields, Dominic Fields, Samantha Solomon, Damien Solomon, and Ailia McVay; great-great-grandchildren, Rylee Jordan, Liam Solomon, Neveah Ferrell, Elyse Bemis, Jade Fields, Mila Fields, and Kida Fields; special companions, Toby and Crickett; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Moore Funeral Home, in Brazil, with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
