Herbert's Story

Herbert Fields Jr., 89, of Center Point, passed away Oct. 26, 2017, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born March 11, 1928, in Brazil, the son of the late Herbert Sr. and Jennie (Roberts) Fields.
He graduated from Patricksburg High School in 1946. Herbert served his country with the United States Air Force for four years. He married the love of his life, Frances Pauline Bucher, on July 20, 1953. She preceded him in passing on April 28, 2016. He loved going to Pizza City in Terre Haute to listen to Blue Grass Music with his wife. Herbert was a crop and cattle farmer for the majority of his life. He also owned and operated Fields Grocery Store in Coal City for 10 years and sold Moormans Feed for 10 years. Herbert was a member of Beech United Methodist Church and Clay City American Legion Post 0225. When he wasn't farming, Herbert enjoyed gardening and being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 63 years, Pauline Fields; son, Gary Fields; parents; brothers, William, Wilmer, Gerald and Ernie Fields; and sisters, Bonnie Hall and Virginia Allen.
Herbert is survived by children, Don Fields (Mary) and Brenda (Fields) French; grandchildren, Angelina Dawn (Cooprider) Wilkinson, Dawn Renee Chandler (Chris) and Don Fields Jr.; great-grandchildren, Brenda Lee Wilkinson, Stephen Christopher Chandler, Aarika Dawn Chandler, Richard Allen Lee Fields and Michael Keith Fields; great-great-granddaughter, Lucy Fields; sister, Monna Kane; sisters-in-law, Stella Fields and Nancy Fields; as well as many extended family and friends.
Services will be Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at 7 p.m. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Lints officiating. Visitation will be Friday at 3 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
