Helen L. Withers, 96, of Brazil, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at Towne Park Assisted Living of Brazil. She was born in Clay County, on Sept. 23, 1921, to Roy Cox and Carrie Riley Cox.
Helen was a 1940 graduate of Brazil High School and had worked as an accountant at W.E. Sherfey Furniture Company and Wabash Valley Asphalt. She was an avid Cubs fan, as well as a Pacers fan, and enjoyed listening to her audio books. Helen was a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 238, where she had served as past worthy matron, White Shrine, Order of Amaranth, Business & Professional Women's Club of Brazil, American Society of Women Accountants, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 1127 (past president), Site Loss Support Group and Brazil United Methodist Church.
Helen is survived by three children, Sherry Curry of Brazil, Bill Wilkison of Terre Haute, and Jim Wilkison and wife Sharon of Brazil; a sister, Margaret Miller of Brazil; six grandchildren, Kari Harmless, Amanda Rothrock, Deanna Waggoner, Rachel Lathrop and husband Joe, Corree Haley and husband Kurt, and Marty Johnson; as well as seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Marion E. Withers; and two brothers, James R. Cox and Paul T. Cox.
Funeral services will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. at 1 p.m. with Mark Strohm officiating. Burial will follow in Clearview Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
