Gregory Linn Stearley


Gregory Linn Stearley, 72, of Stearleyville, Indiana passed away at Exceptional Living Center, on July 5, 2019 following a brief illness.
Gregg was born on June 11, 1947, in Brazil, Indiana the son of Glenn E. and Jean (Fisher) Stearley. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1965. While in high school, he was a member of the track team where he participated in pole vaulting. He attended Indiana State University and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Technology. Gregg was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during the Vietnam War and was later honorably discharged.
Gregg worked as a salesman for Great Dane Trailers in Brazil, Indiana and Savannah, Georgia for more than 20 years. He also worked for Hyundai in Reno, Nevada and San Diego, California. Most recently he had been driving a school bus for Clay Community Schools.
When he wasn't working, Gregg enjoyed watching and participating in sports including golf, racing, water and snow skiing, and basketball. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting.
Gregg was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, American Legion, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Gregg was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Jean Stearley; brothers Randy Von Stearley, in infancy, and Brad Stearley.
Survivors include his two daughters, Candace Forkner of Savannah, Georgia and Christina Murphy and husband Mat of Savannah, Georgia; grandchildren Samuel Forkner IV, Ashlynn Forkner, Addison Murphy and Aiden Murphy; siblings Shari Sinders and husband Paul of Clay City, Indiana and Kathy Bell and husband Marvin of Brazil; special friend Deborah Bailey; beloved dog Sebastian; several nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. Services will be on Friday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department, 1930 E. County Road 600 North, Brazil, Indiana 47834. Visit to light a candle in his memory.
