Geraldine Stevens Harris, 88, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Geraldine was born in Terre Haute on Feb. 18, 1929, to Eliza Stevens and Ada Belle Matchen Stevens. Geraldine was a homemaker most of her life and had also worked in the hospitality industry. She was a former member of Bethlehem Temple Church in Terre Haute, and was a graduate of Wiley High School. Geraldine loved to sew and made most of her own clothing as well as clothing for friends, family and especially her granddaughter. She loved spending time with her granddaughter playing ball as well as collecting spools together. She will be remembered by her family for having an outstanding memory and intelligence and always being pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Elsia Stevens, Alphonso Stevens and John Stevens; and a sister, Hazel Utley. She was preceded by her daughter, Elyse Burkins on March 22, 2003.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Chavon Burkins of Terre Haute; and one sister, Dr. Alice Stevens Little and her husband Bishop Vanuel C. Little Sr. of Oklahoma City; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN., 47804. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday, at the Funeral Home. Bishop Vanuel C. Little Sr. will be officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
