Fred H. Thomas, 67, of New Goshen, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, in his residence. He was employed with Brad Cooper Farms in Dennison, Ill., and had previously been a member of the Laborers Union Local 204 for several years. He was born Nov. 6, 1950, in Streeter, Ill., to Fred S. Thomas and Edna M. Ramey Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, James F. Thomas and Donald Cown; two daughters, Diana Thomas and her husband Dennis and Heather Mendoza; a sister, Beth Ann Johnson; his former wife and friend, Doris Thomas; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; an uncle, Don Thomas; a cousin, Richard Ramey; his best friends, Brad Cooper (Suzanne), Buddy Donham (Dinah), Butch Wrin and Roy Lowe; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Johnson.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having been stationed in Hawaii. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 and the American Legion Post 501, both in West Terre Haute. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing. Fred enjoyed joking around and always had a joke or two to tell.
A celebration of life service for Fred will be 7 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home with Joe Irwin officiating and military rites provided by the Vigo County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until services Monday. According to his wishes, cremation has been arranged.
