On a week filled with birthdays of his loved ones, Dr. Fadhil Alsikafi died on the one used to celebrate his own, Oct. 15. He was 75.
Dr. Alsikafi was born in Najaf, Iraq, and received his medical degree from University of Baghdad College of Medicine in 1965. He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and completed his residency training in general and orthopedic surgery as well as a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1978. In 1979, Dr. Alsikafi began his medical practice in Terre Haute, Ind., and served the community as a hand surgeon for over 35 years until his retirement in 2015.
Dr. Alsikafi leaves behind his loving wife, Dr. Ferial Alsikafi; and sons, Dr. Nejd (Fauzia) Alsikafi, Zaid (Mariam) Alsikafi and Basil (Saboora) Alsikafi; and grandchildren, Alia, Yusef, Salma, Kareem, Zuhair, Ameena, Kiyan, Serene and Idris.
