MARTINSVILLE, Ill. - Everett Dean Walters Sr., 86, of Wilmington, Ill., and formerly of Martinsville, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1930, in Martinsville, the son of Jeff Walters and Goldie Mae Jacobs Walters. On May 23, 1953, he married Myrna Lee Estes in Junction City, Kan.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Myrna Walters of Wilmington; son, Alan (Lisa) Walters of Village of the Lakewood, Ill.; daughters, Pam Kempes of Wilmington and Roxanne Foster of Coal City, Ill.; brother, Jerry (Karen) Walters of Mattoon, Ill.; sister, Jean (Morris) Webster of Mattoon; grandchildren, Paige (Steve) Nutt, Brooke (Pat) Brown, Eric Kempes, Blair (Jeff) Horath, Doug Foster, Linnea Walters, Connor Hudak and Trevor Hudak; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, E. Dean Walter Jr.; and son-in-law, Fred Kempes.
Dean was a retired well driller. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Korean war. He was a member of the Blue Grass Church of God in Martinsville, where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed working on small engines and rebuilt antique tractors. Dean was an avid NASCAR, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon CST Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, with Pastor Larry Hollensbe officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville, with graveside military rites by the Martinsville American Legion.
