Edgar "Ed" Eugene Barbee, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday morning, May 6, 2017. He was born Dec. 1, 1934, to Adron Barbee Sr. and Beulah (Inman) Barbee.
He married Phyllis Ann Bright on March 31, 1956. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just last year with family and friends.
Ed worked for many years as an electrician for the I.B.E.W. Local 725, retiring in 1997. Ed was an incredibly creative, innovative man and lifelong learner who loved to pursue his many unique hobbies. He enjoyed scuba diving on shipwrecks, traveling out West for rockhounding, building computers, golfing, working with plants, and tinkering with his many inventions. Ed also obtained his pilot's license and was an amateur lapidary. The most important things in his life were his family and his faith. Ed attended Cory Church of the Nazarene in Cory, Faith Wesleyan Church in Terre Haute, and Hernando First Nazarene in Hernando, Fla. He was an accomplished musician and gospel singer, often performing for his church and recording his music. Ed was not a man who sought attention, but was very generous behind the scenes, always willing to serve in his church or offer help to anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phillis.
