Drue was a 1948 graduate of Coal City High School. He served his county proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Drue was a machine operator for Peabody Coal Co. and operated the DX filling station in Clay City. He was also a truck driver, hauling coal and grain for RL Trucking and Herman Klass.
Drue was a member of Faith Southern Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #562 in Clay City. He loved to go camping, fishing and tinkering with various things to repair.
Drue's family consists of his loving wife of 62 years, Sue (Bond) Shouse; their children, Candi Shonk (Lloyd) and Cindi Shouse Hummel; grandchildren, Jamie Shonk (Tasha), Jerami Wheeler (Nathan), Michl Shonk (Trisha) and Jordan Hummel; great-grandchildren, Lola and Zander Wheeler, and Nolan, Mason and Kolden Shonk; brother, Hugh Lynn Shouse (June); a special brother-in-law, Don Bond (Janice); and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at Faith Southern Baptist Church, 875 Indiana 246, Clay City, Ind., with pastor Jeff Burns officiating. Burial will be in Beech Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth St., Clay City. To light a candle in his memory, visit:
