Dr. George P. Compton Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, on March 13, 1933, Dr. George P. Compton died peacefully and free of pain on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, with his loving wife, Jan, and family at his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ruby; and sister, Alice; and is survived by a brother, Charles Compton of Terre Haute.
Dr. Compton earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and his doctorate from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1946. While in dental school, he met his wife-to-be, Jan Miller, who was a registered dental hygiene student at the same time.
Upon graduation in 1957, Dr. Compton was stationed in Korea at a M*A*S*H unit, where he served as a captain in the United States Army. After returning home to the U.S., he married his wife, Jan, and he served stateside at Fort Riley Kansas, until his discharge in 1959.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial gifts in Dr. George P. Compton's name may be made to either of the following: Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Anatomical Research and Cell Biology, 635 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202-5120 (... "the bequeathal of Dr. Compton's body for study is making a significant contribution to the quality of life and care for the future of the living."); or the Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st St., Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830.
