Doris Jean Pell, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sept. 2, 2017, at her home in Terre Haute. She was born in Louisville, Ky., on Jan. 15, 1937, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Erwin) Hardman. She married James Earl Pell on Dec. 26, 1958, and later graduated from Indiana State University with a master's degree in music education.
She taught choral, theatre, and instrumental music at several area schools. Doris was also the director of the "Summer Showcase" theatre production in Brazil for 15 years. Mrs. Pell also served many area churches as choir director, pianist, and organist. Doris and Jim were members of the Brazil Concert Band for decades. Her most recent endeavor was playing piano for the the St. Mary of the Woods theatre production of "The Sound of Music".
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James Earl Pell of Terre Haute; son, Robert E. (Lori) Pell of Terre Haute; daughters, Christy Pell of Brazil, Susan Pell of Terre Haute, and Patty (Bud) Pell Patterson of Brazil; grandchildren, Benjamin Parker, Leah Parker, Allison Pell, Katy Pell, Jessica Pell, and Taylor Patterson; several great-grandchildren; ans special pet, Princess.
A celebration of Doris's life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Moore Funeral Home, in Brazil, with Pastor Melvin Camp officiating.
