Donald W. Smith passed away at Transitional Care and Rehabilitation-Southwood in Terre Haute, on the evening of Aug. 22, 2017. He was born on April 27, 1937, in Kyles Ford, Tenn. He lived there several years before moving to Ohio with his family.
He served in the United States Navy for four years. After his discharge from the Navy he lived in and around the Xenia, Ohio area before moving to Terre Haute, where he worked, lived and played golf for over 40 years. As an avid golfer he put together quite a few golf outings for his friends in and out of the State. Golfing was not his only hobby, he also enjoyed music and old movies. He loved life and was always smiling and laughing. He lived life to its fullest. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac H. Smith and Lula Willis Smith; his brothers, Elgar Smith, Logan Smith, Kellis Smith and Claude Smith; his sisters, Emily Russell Gray, Ina B. Ritch and Nadean Anderson.
He has two surviving sisters-in-law, Mary Smith and Francis Smith. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews in Ohio and Tennessee whose lives he truly blessed.
Don had three very special longtime friends that so very graciously visited and helped care for him. They are Butch Carson, Mel Ennen and Richard Tucker also fondly known as "the Kid". Our family thanks you so much.
A celebration of Don's life will be on Sept. 28, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Riley American Legion Post 328, 5603 S. Lama St., Riley.
Donald will be buried in Xenia, Ohio, at the family's discretion. Greiner Funeral Home was trusted with care and arrangements.
