Diane's Story

Diane Burns, 74, of Brazil, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Feb. 16, 2018. She was born in Lebanon, Ill., on May 30, 1943, the daughter of Walter and Edna (Liebig) Baum.
Diane married Albert "Marion" Burns on June 6, 1959. The early years of their marriage were spent in Illinois, Scotland, and Washington while Marion served in the Air Force. After his discharge from the military they returned to Clay County, where they raised four children. Diane worked as a cook for East Side Elementary School for 30 years. In her free time she enjoyed reading, playing on her iPad, shopping and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Edna Baum; a son, David Burns; siblings, Theodore Baum, Marion Williams, Betty Hartman, and Walter Baum.
Diane is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marion Burns of Brazil; children, Steven W. Burns and wife Lori of Terre Haute, Rebecca Ann Yowell and husband Brad of Rosedale, and Scott Burns and wife Marian of Brazil; grandchildren, Courtney Chastain (Shawn), Alyssa Koza (Wesley), Lauren Love, Kaitlin Burns, Austin Burns, Brandon Stearley (Kristi), Adam Yowell (Iris), and Baileigh Burns; great-grandchildren, Parker Chastain, Hannah Love, Bennett Chastain, Wesley Koza Jr., Trysten Hightower, and Lexi Roman; two sisters, Dottie Brock and Judy Baker; special niece and nephew, Shelly Hartman and Art Hartman; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
