Dennis James Grimes, 60, of Terre Haute, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 24, 1957, in Indianapolis, to Richard Lewis Grimes and Norma Jeanne Miller Grimes.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cathy Grimes of Terre Haute; children, Jason Reynolds and wife Apple, Adam James Grimes and wife Jessica, Bryan Grimes, and Ashley Hayes and husband Jack; brothers, Richard Lewis Grimes II and wife Judy, and Rodney E. Grimes and wife Peggy; sisters, Deanna J. Long and husband Stuart, and Mari Beth Moffitt; grandchildren, Chassidy, Isaac, Zoey, Nicolas James, Benjamin and McCartney; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers; and his best friend, Tom Rukes.
Dennis was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a self-employed contractor. Dennis earned an HVAC degree from Ivy Tech. He was a member of American Legion Post 104.
An avid outdoorsman, Dennis enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. He liked to play spoons and was an avid pool player. He liked to play cards, especially blackjack. Everyone always looked forward to Dennis' Super Bowl parties every year. He loved to fix things. Dennis cherished his dog, Baron, but most of all his family, friends and especially his beloved wife, Cathy.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, at Roselawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. A celebration of life service will be held at the F.O.P. Lodge 85 at 14th and Hulman at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11. As Denny would always say, "NICE!"
