Della Delores Carson Nolan peacefully passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 79 years of age. She was surrounded and comforted by her loved ones. Della (affectionately called "Lois" by her family) was born in Terre Haute, to Robert Earl and Daphney Burnetta Carson.
She excelled in her formal education through the Vigo County School System. Della and her husband, Paul M. Nolan, were blessed with 50 years of marriage. As the children grew, she began working outside their home. She retired from Union Hospital after many years in the dietary department. Her love of cooking and preparing meals for family and friends led her to other venues. She opened her own catering business called "Della's Delight". Over the years she collected a large library of cookbooks from around the world. After retiring again, she provided daycare services for many families in need of child care.
Della had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Bethlehem Temple Church. She was very involved in the church, volunteering in various ministries and assisted with various fundraising events. She loved music, traveling, and shopping. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was truly blessed ... as those who knew her were truly blessed too!
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Earl Carson Jr. and Thomas Leroy Carson; children, Paul Lawrence Nolan, Juanita Jo Nolan and Justin Quante Nolan; and granddaughter, Denise Owens.
She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy her husband, Paul M. Nolan; sons, James (Harrietta) Hurtt, Walter Trent Nolan, both of Terre Haute; Stacey (Lavern) Nolan, Evansville; daughters, Pauletta (Harry) Turner, Mary Yvette Brown, both of Terre Haute; siblings, brother, Dale (LaConda) Carson; three sisters, Evelyn Allen, Rosa Evans and Audrey Barnhill, all of Terre Haute; stepchildren, Paul Nolan Jr. and Glenda Stewart, both of Milwaukee, and Pam Nolan, Indianapolis; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and a host of relatives, extended families and friends.
The visitation will be Friday, July 21, 2017, from 4 until 8 p.m. and a funeral service celebrating her life at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Temple Church, 1432 South 13th St., Terre Haute, with Suffragan Bishop J. Glenn Purnell and Senior Pastor and Eulogist. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Russell Funeral Home assisted.
